Intertek Showcases Leather Testing Capabilities at India International Leather Fair
Chennai, February 4th, 2013: Intertek participated in the 29th annual India International Leather Fair (IILF), which was held from February 1-3, 2014 at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, Chennai and attended by more than 400 companies from India and around the world. Intertek performs leather testing on a wide range of materials, products, product lines and prototype creations. Intertek’s leather testing laboratories have the capabilities to validate professional leather cleaning labels, identify any deficiencies and suggest remedial measures.
Intertek’s Gurgaon laboratory has the technical expertise and machinery to identify different species and types of leather. Because leather contains some harmful chemicals that may be unsafe for consumers, Intertek uses advanced technology to determine the content of these chemicals and ensure that the products meet the quality requirement.
IILF displayed a wide range of leather products from raw materials, machinery and equipment and chemicals, to finished products including shoes, shoe components (uppers, soles, heels, counters, lasts), leather garments, fashion accessories, leather goods (wallets, belts, gloves, portfolios, hand bags), machinery and equipment and chemicals.
Talking about Intertek’s participation in the fair, Mr. Manish Kumar, Regional Director – Softlines and Country Manager for Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Madagascar, said, “IILF presents latest trends, designs, fashion, technology and techniques to process leather from all over the world. The one-of-a-kind exhibition brings together manufacturers, suppliers, traders and designers and gives them an opportunity to exchange ideas. The leather industry is enjoying phenomenal growth currently. Intertek’s unparalleled expertise in identifying the species and the chemicals used in dyeing and finishing, ensures that the end product meets the quality requirements of the customers and the requirements of regions marketed. This gives an edge to the manufacturers and the competitive advantage to enter other markets.”
He further added, “Intertek uses superior testing techniques to ascertain that only the finest quality of leather gets to the customers. It is always a pleasure to participate in IILF as it allows us to emphasis the importance of using quality leather products and ensuring the safety of consumers.”
IILF is organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation – the premier trade promotion agency of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Last year, the fair generated business of approximately US$ 284.4 million and 9384 trade enquiries were made.
