Results of China Market Textile and Footwear Spot Checks in May 2014

Towels

The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for towels. The spot check inspected 55 batches of samples; 5 batches were found unqualified.

This spot check was conducted according to the standards GB 18401-2010 "National general safety technical code for textile products," GB 5296.4-2012 "Instructions for use of products of consumer interest - Part 4: Textiles and apparel," FZ/T 01053-2007 "Textiles-Designation of fiber content," GB/T 22864-2009 "Towel" and related standards. The key items inspected on these samples were absorbency, colorfastness to dry rubbing, colorfastness to water, colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to saliva, formaldehyde, pH value, fiber content, AZO and pile retention.

Primary failed items: fiber content and absorbency.

Athletic Footwear

The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for athletic footwear. The spot check inspected 41 batches of samples; 2 batches were found unqualified.

This spot check was conducted according to the standards GB/T 15107-2005 "Athletic footwear" and related standards. The key items inspected on these samples were appearance, peeling strength of upper and sole, flexing resistance, abrasion resistance, adhesion of midsole and outsole and peeling strength of upper and foxing.

Primary failed items: flexing resistance.

Children’s  Footwear

The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for children’s shoes. The spot check inspected 19 batches of samples; 7 batches were found unqualified.

This spot check was conducted according to the standards GB/T 2880-2007 "Children's leather shoes," GB 25036-2010 "Children's canvas rubber footwear (shoes)" and related standards. The key items inspected on these samples were appearance, flexing resistance, abrasion resistance, peeling strength, outsole hardness, bond strength for insole and outsole, colorfastness to rubbing of lining, odor, size of shank, chromium VI content, AZO, free formaldehyde, pH value and bond strength of foxing and upper.

Primary failed items: free formaldehyde, chromium VI content, outsole hardness, appearance and abrasion resistance.

Children’s Apparel

The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for children’s apparel. The spot check inspected 55 batches of samples; 5 batches were found unqualified.

This spot check was conducted according to the standards GB 18401-2010 "National general safety technical code for textile products," GB 5296.4-1998 "Instructions for use of products of consumer interest - Part 4: Textiles and apparel," FZ/T 01053-2007 "Textiles-Designation of fiber content," FZ/T 81003-2003 " Children's clothing and student's wear," FZ/T 73025-2006 "Knitted garment and adornment for infant," FZ/T 81014-2008 "Infant's wear" and related standards. The key items inspected on these samples were fiber content, formaldehyde, pH value, AZO, colorfastness to water, colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to dry rubbing, colorfastness to saliva, extractable heavy metals, seam strength and residual metal needle.

Primary failed items: pH value and fiber content.

Towels and Bath Towels

The Guangzhou Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for towels and bath towels. The spot check inspected 2 batches of samples; 1 batch was found unqualified.

This spot check was conducted according to the standards GB 18401-2010 "National general safety technical code for textile products," GB 5296.4-1998 "Instructions for use of products of consumer interest - Part 4: Textiles and apparel" and related standards. The key items inspected on these samples were label, fiber content, formaldehyde, pH value, AZO, colorfastness to water, colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to rubbing, colorfastness to washing and absorbency.

Primary failed item: absorbency.

Bedding

The Guangzhou Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for bedding. The spot check inspected 16 batches of samples; no batches were found unqualified.

This spot check was conducted according to the standards GB 18401-2010 "National general safety technical code for textile products," GB 5296.4-1998 "Instructions for use of products of consumer interest - Part 4: Textiles and apparel¹" and related standards. The key items inspected on these samples were label, fiber content, formaldehyde, pH value, AZO, color fastness to water, colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to rubbing, colorfastness to washing and dimensional stability to washing.

Fabric

The Gansu Bureau of Quality and Technical supervision launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for fabric. The spot check inspected 30 batches of samples; 6 batches were found unqualified.

This spot check was conducted according to the standards GB 18401-2010 "National general safety technical code for textile products," GB/ T411-2008 "Printed and dyed cotton fabric," FZ/T 14007-2011 "Printed and dyed cotton /polyester blended fabrics," FZ/T 01057-2007 "Textiles-Designation of fiber content" and related standards. The key items inspected on these samples were fiber content, formaldehyde, pH value, colorfastness to water, colorfastness to dry rubbing, dimensional stability to washing and tensile strength.

Primary failed items: pH value, dimensional stability to washing and tensile strength.

Children’s Footwear

The Tianjin City Administration for Industry & Commerce launched a special product quality supervision and inspection for children’s footwear. The spot check inspected 20 batches of samples; 1 batch was found unqualified.

This spot check was conducted according to the standards GB/T 2880-2007 "Children's leather shoes," QB/T 1002-2005 "Leather shoes," QB/T 4331-2012 " Children’s athletic shoes," GB/T 15107-2005 "Athletic shoes" and related standards. The key items inspected on these samples were appearance, peeling strength of upper and sole, abrasion resistance, odor, AZO, formaldehyde, Cr (VI) and label.

Primary failed item: formaldehyde.
