NOTE – Another SUN is still in process with Effective Date of December 23, 2014 which is covered in previous SUN issued October 2012. Previous SUN also contained 3 revised requirements (25.11, 31.1.7, Table 31.1) with stated ED = January 12, 2015 then was pushed out to January 12, 2016. Those revised requirements are covered below with other requirements with ED = January 12, 2016.

 
Impact, Overview, Fees and Action Required

Impact Statement:  A review of all Listing Reports is necessary to determine which products comply with new/revised requirements and which products will require re-evaluation. NOTE: Effective immediately, this revised standard will be exclusively used for evaluation of new products unless the Applicant requests in writing that current requirements be used along with their understanding that their listings will be withdrawn on Effective Date noted above, unless the product is found to comply with new/revised requirements.

Overview of Changes:  Many clarified, revised and added new paragraphs to reflect the outcome of Standards Technical Panel (STP) meetings and discussions in 2012 and 2013. Specific details of new/revised requirements that may affect currently ETL Listed products are found in table below.

Schedule:  So that shipping of products with Listing Marks will not be interrupted, an approximate schedule has been established to ensure Listing Reports are found compliant by Effective Date:

  • May 15, 2015 = 8 Month Report Review – Intertek will review all Reports. Update if compliance is verified or issue Findings Letter/Quote for any re-evaluations needed
  • July 17, 2015 = 6 Month Quote Cut-off – Quotes returned for necessary re-evaluations
  • December 18, 2015 = 30 Day Warning – Client advised of all non-compliant Reports to be Suspended
  • January 12, 2016 = Effective Date – ATM Suspended for all non-compliant Reports

Fees:  An initial review of Listing Report (s) will be covered by a direct billing project and will be invoiced at not more than $1000 per report.

Client Action Required:

Information – To assist our Engineer with review of your Listing Reports, please submit technical information in response to the new/revised paragraphs noted in the attached or explain why these new/revised requirements do not apply to your product (s).

Current Listings Not Active? – Please immediately identify any current Listing Reports or products that are no longer active and should be removed from our records. We will do this at no charge as long as Intertek is notified in writing prior to the review of your reports.

Revision to Remove Reference to Terms "Primary" and "Secondary" when Describing Entrapment Protection Devices.

Removing Type E device (audio alarm entrapment protection device) as an option for Gate Operators. ACTION:  Certs to be reviewed to confirm no Vehicular gate operator Class III and IV products are relying on Type E audio alarm entrapment protection.

Audio alert alarm now needed for all gate operators (previously only required for Class I and II).  ACTION: Certs to be reviewed to confirm Class III and IV gate operators to ensure they now include audio alert alarm per 31.1.2.

58.6.7 items 4) and 6), 61.5.1 Clarification of Instructional and Marking Requirements for Installations Less Than 8 Feet Above the Floor.  ACTION: Certs to be reviewed to confirm commercial door operators markings and instructions include the less than 8 foot requirements
58.8.4 items a) 2),  item f) and exception. Revisions to Instructions for gate operators regarding screening or guarding of horizontal slide gates, to align with ASTM F2200.  Also revised Instructions for controls for emergency access. ACTION: Certs to be reviewed to ensure updated instructions are provided.
