ABOUT THE ROLE
An opportunity has arisen for a Food Microbiology Supervisor to perform plate counting, confirmation of samples and sample processing. As a Laboratory Supervisor you will ideally be an experienced microbiologist with knowledge of food testing, particularly pathogen identification. Working within a fast- moving environment the Microbiology Supervisor will be focused on driving operational efficiencies, high standards of service delivery, continuous improvement and best value solutions.
The Microbiology Supervisor role will involve:
•Reading plates, confirmation and validation of analytical results as required.
•Drive the methods forward through validations and new technologies
•Adhering to documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work and maintenance of exceptional records
•Reporting and/or calculation of results in accordance with the methods of analysis.
•Maintain turnaround time at >99%, ensuring that daily targets are achieved.
•Responsible for ensuring that UK health and safety legislation is maintained and helping to ensure that the working environment is kept in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment.
•Supervise the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
•To assist through operating best practice in order to meet the requirements of the UKAS accreditation standard.
•Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
•Providing operational control
•The successful candidate will be considered as one of the senior members of the shift and will deputise for the Microbiology Manager as required
The role will be based in Stoke on Trent (ST6), which is a multi-discipline site ensuring Food safety in the UK and offers good transportation links to all surrounding areas including the M6. The role holder will be required to work 4 on 4 off with 12-hour shifts.

•Previous experience of reading culture plates and interpretation of pathogens, spoilage and indicator organisms
•Previous experience of confirmation of microorganism’s thorough use of biochemical techniques
•Substantial experience working in an accredited Laboratory
•High level of knowledge and competence of Microbiology
