Job Responsibilities

Intertek Pharma Services Manchester (IPSM) has an extensive range of analytical instrumentation and provides analytical services to customers in the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, personal care and speciality chemical sectors in a GLP, GCP and GMP regulated laboratory.  

Primarily the role will work as an integral part of the Technical Team within the Laboratory. On a daily basis the role holder will have the ability to carry out duties including preparation and analysis of samples using a variety of analytical techniques. This role will provide the role holder with the opportunity to grow their skills within a closely monitored environment and gain experience of a wide variety of techniques.

The role will also include but not limited to:

Partially trained in practical aspects of one or more techniques, generally require supervision to generate high quality data and to recognise artefacts

Some training in interpretation, but limited scope and will always require supervision.

Able to follow specified methods with significant supervision, reports will be checked. Work limited to standard methods/procedures.

Introduction to theoretical basis of the techniques.

Introduction to some clients’ products and processes.

Problem solving

Work constrained to established methods and well-defined problems; limited scope for independent problem solving

Accountability

All work supervised and checked 

Limited direct communication with clients

Work priorities determined through Laboratory Manager and Team Leader

Impact: primarily direct sales, and customer service.

Additional information

The Manchester site operates on a flexible working basis where core hours are 37.5 hours per week. The role holder must be willing to work to a flexible schedule as the business requires.

Job Qualifications

Required skills and experience

Degree level required within relevant science or hold significant experience which has been obtained within a scientific or industry setting 

Knowledge of analytical science and an understanding of Spectroscopy (NMR, FTIR)

Basic knowledge of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry 

Knowledge and application of appropriate systems and procedures relevant to scientific and analytical methodologies and required regulatory standards

Knowledge of safety procedures, laboratory performance standards, handling chemicals, COSHH

Procedure and Standards : knowledge of research/regulatory procedures and instructions
