Job Responsibilities

This role will be as part of the Sample Registration / Microbiology team which supports departments across the Stoke site to ensure that all samples received are registered and assigned correctly. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the end-to-end sample receipt process and resolving sample queries by liaising with Customer Services, Senior Managers and clients.

Additionally, the role will involve deputising for the Team Leaders during absence. When deputising, the successful candidate will have responsibility for supervising the microbiology production team, making operational decisions and sending routine reports to the management team. 

Principle Accountabilities will include:

Routine workload management

Managing all aspects of sample receipt and distribution

Receipt and registration of samples

Resolution of queries

Liaising with clients 

Supporting the Team Leaders to ensure operational efficiency

Deputising for Team Leaders where required

Planning, carrying out and documenting training for other staff members 

People Management Responsibilities 

Provide clear instructions based on agreed processes

Take charge in releasing potential of the team

To comply with all required Health and Safety protocols and promote a good H&S culture throughout the lab.

Additional Information

The role holder will be required to work Monday to Friday, 2pm to 10pm, plus overtime as required.

Senior Technicians will report to Team Leaders

Job Qualifications

Required skills and experience

Good IT literacy skills

The ideal candidate will be time served in a similar working environment

Experience of supervising in an UKAS accredited laboratory would be a distinct advantage
