Intertek's Caleb Brett UK business provides quality and quantity measurement, inspection, and laboratory testing services to the global oil, gas, petrochemical, petroleum refining & distribution, natural gas, biofuels, marine, and chemicals industries. Intertek helps clients protect and manage their risk during custody transfer, storage, transportation and other activities related to their cargo assets. Their qualified personnel also provide technical expertise and additive treatment services, helping clients to protect and optimise the return on their cargo business activities.

They have one of the largest networks of analytical testing laboratories in the world. Using advanced analytical technologies, our experienced chemists, material scientists, technicians and lab managers provide clients with key purity and component testing, able to measure elements and compounds into the parts-per-billion level. Our analytical assessment testing supports crucial quality control, troubleshooting, and research & development processes for clients on a global basis.

Job Responsibilities

To lead one of the shift teams and to test and release petroleum products. The position will involve (but is not limited to): 

Leading a shift team and supervising/organising the daily duties of the team members.

Leading the development of the team members and carrying out their individual reviews. 

Testing a variety of petroleum products to ASTM and IP test methods.

Preparing and testing sample blends as requested by customers

To prepare and test quality control samples, to standardise reagents and solutions and to calibrate equipment as needed for the testing process. 

To make sure the quality control samples are carried out at the correct frequency for equipment in the Laboratory

Verifying samples to specifications and communicating results obtained.

Make appropriate entries in the required records and systems.

Generate reports for release to customers.

Receive and log in samples for testing on the required systems.

Maintain documentation as required to meet ISO 17025.

People Management 

Drive performance through setting clear performance expectations

Manage performance through regular communications including one to ones, team meetings and regular feedback

Take charge in releasing potential of the team

Additional Information 

This role will require the role holder to work a shift pattern with an average 37.5 hours per week. The rota will be discussed further at a later stage in the recruitment process, but can include shifts of 7am-7pm day shifts and 7pm-7am night shifts (including appropriate rest times)

Job Qualifications

Required skills and experience

Good IT literacy skills

Minimum 3 years in a lab environment, preferably in a petroleum lab, with experience supervising other staff members.

Experience and knowledge of petroleum products.

Familiarity with ASTM and IP test methodologies.

Instrument (GC, HPLC, AAS, ICP) or Engine experience a plus.

Good communication skills, problem solving and good organisation skills
