Heavy Crude Oil Upgrading Pilot Plants
Heavy crude oil upgrading pilot plant.
With the refining industry shifting to heavier conventional crude oils and unconventional resources, such as bitumen. Intertek PARC provides pilot plant services for upgrading these feedstocks. Heavy feedstock pilot plant capabilities include feedstock preparation, delayed coking, visbreaking (thermal cracking) and solvent deasphalting.
Resid is the heavier material bottoms from atmospheric and vacuum distillation of the crude oil. Intertek PARC offers atmospheric distillation services to prepare an atmospheric residue fraction which is then vacuum distilled to produce the vacuum residue. PARC has sixteen batch stills and one continuous still P-13 which can be used to conduct the atmospheric distillation. PARC will work with the client to select the right still for the program.
Vacuum distillation services produce resid using one of two continuous stills:
- Short-residence-time flash vaporizer with a capacity of up to 2.5 liters/hr at 2-3 mm Hg vacuum to cut up to 1100°F.
- Continuous still P-13 with a capacity of 15 gallons per hour at 2-3 mm Hg vacuum to cut up to 1050°F.
The vacuum residue can then be further processed at Intertek PARC using delayed coking, deasphalting or visbreaking to recover additional valuable product that can not be recovered by conventional vacuum distillation.
