Thermal conversion pilot plants for investigation of heavy fuels.

Intertek runs thermal conversion and short path distillation pilot plant unites, supporting heavy fuel refining technology clients.

Thermal conversion capabilities include:

  • Feedstock crackability characterization for design and troubleshoot purposes
  • Crude residue characterization for new refinery units or optimization of existing installations
  • Feed and product property data for modeling/design of a Visbreaker/Vacuum Flasher plant
  • Feed and product property data for modeling and design of a Deep Thermal Cracking Plant

The unit is also equipped to investigate feedstocks such as natural bitumen, tarsands and high viscosity crudes. 

Technical details for heavy fuel pilot plant services: 

  • 3 tubes with different uniform heating zones from 250 C up to 520 C 
  • Feed rate at 2 kg/h with residence times of 2 minutes 
  • Multi product distillation capability with subsequent analysis opportunities 
  • 6 meter coil with about .4 liter volume
