Intertek uses polarised light microscopy for asbestos bulk analysis in New Zealand.
Bulk analysis is an established method of asbestos identification. It is used to determine if any asbestos is present as well as identifying the type of asbestos present.
Bulk analysis uses polarised light microscopy to identify if asbestos is present in a sample or not. A fibre suspected to be asbestos is removed from the bulk sample and then placed under a polarised light microscope. Various tests are performed to identify if the fibre is asbestos and also what type of asbestos is present.
Tools are thoroughly cleaned and samples are opened in a negative pressure environment to avoid cross contamination.
