The European energy management standard, EN 16001, was published in 2009. An international energy management standard, ISO 50001, was published in June 2011. ISO 50001 establishes a framework for industrial plants, commercial facilities, or entire organizations to manage energy. According to ISO, the standard could influence up to 60% of the world's energy use, with broad applicability across national economic sectors.
