Overview of Changes: The STP 864 incorporated the requirements for Amplifiers and Power Supply Units for use in fire alarm and emergency communication systems from UL 1711 and UL1481 into the Standard for Control Units and Accessories for Fire Alarm Systems, UL 864 10th edition.

Please refer to the following for specific details of the implementation plan.
  • December 3rd, 2018 is the effective date, new amplifiers and power supply units for use in fire alarm and emergency communication systems submitted for certification on and after the effective date will be required to be investigated to UL 864 10th edition.
  • Existing certifications of Amplifiers to UL 1711 and Power Supply Units to UL 1481 will be allowed to continue to be certified after December 3rd, 2018 and not be withdrawn provided there are no changes to the design that require a certification decision or until a new/revised requirement in UL864 is determined as “Action Required” to require a file review in the future. For example, if changes to the design, ratings, or the use of alternate components requiring a certification decision are submitted after the effective date, the device (in its entirety) will need to be evaluated to the new requirements of UL 864 10th edition.
  • UL 864 will be the future standard for amplifiers and power supply units for use in fire alarm and emergency communication systems.
