Description of New/Revised Technical Requirements
ClauseVerdictComment
34 New section added;

Supplementary Circuit
34.1 A supplementary charging circuit provided in a Type 3 SPD shall comply with the requirement of the Standard for Class 2 Power Units, UL 1310 or the Standard for Information Technology Equipment Safety - Part 1: General Requirements, UL 60950-1.
34.2 Type 3 SPDs that employ supplementary circuitry as specified in 1.15 evaluated by UL 60950-1 shall be marked as specified in 80.30 to warn the user of the limited application.
35 New section added;

Rechargeable Battery Pack
35.1 A rechargeable battery pack provided in cord-connected and direct plug-in Type 3 SPDs shall comply with the requirements in the Standard for Household and Commercial Batteries, UL 2054.
35.2 Cord-connected and direct plug-in Type 3 SPDs provided with a non-replaceable rechargeable battery shall be marked as specified in 80.31.
35.3 Cord-connected and direct plug-in Type 3 SPDs provided with a replaceable rechargeable battery shall be marked as indicated in 80.32 and provided with instructions as noted in 81.3.
73 New section added;

Breakdown Voltage Measurement Test
73.1 Three samples of Type 5 SPDs (Gas Tubes) shall break down within the manufacturer’s specified range when subjected to the conditions specified in 73.2.
73.2 Each sample is to be mounted in a position of normal use and connected to a pulse generator that will produce a rate of voltage rise of 100 volts per second. The voltage rise shall remain within ±10 percent of the 100 volts per second voltage rise-rate. The discharge current shall be sufficient to cause operation in the arc mode but not exceed 10 amperes.
78 New section added; Breakdown Voltage Measurement
78.1 If required by 41.1(b), each sample of Type 5 discrete gas tubes, as a routine production-line test, shall be connected to a pulse generator that will produce a rate of voltage rise of 100 volts per second. The exponential voltage rise shall remain within ±10 percent of the 100 volts per second voltage rise-rate. The discharge current shall be sufficient to cause operation in the arc mode but not exceed 10 amperes. The value measured shall be within the manufacturers specified range.
