Consulting, testing and certification for cradle-to-grave
environmentally conscious design
The EU Energy-Using Product Directive (EuP – 2005/32/EC) requires designers
and manufacturers of energy-using products to apply eco-design principles
to effectively reduce the environmental impact of their products from
cradle-to-grave. The EuP Directive very broadly defines an
energy-using product as:
“a product which is dependent on energy input (electricity, fossil
fuels and renewable energy sources) to work as intended…”
Under EuP, designers are expected to consider and reduce the
cradle-to-grave environmental impacts of their products’:
-
use of raw materials and natural resources
-
negative contributions towards climate change (for example: greenhouse
gases - ghg)
-
energy consumption used during extraction of raw materials,
transportation, production, sale, use (including stand-by) and disposal
-
waste generation
-
release of hazardous substances.
Intertek’s EuP services help producers determine their EuP obligations,
implement eco-design principles, evaluate and certify their products
against applicable criteria, and fulfill the EuP requirements. Our
