Intertek provides impartial data for determination of emission and oxidation factors, enabling clients to engage in greenhouse gas emission allowance trading inside the European Union.

Directive 2003/87/EC of the European Parliament and of the European Council establishes greenhouse gas emission (GHG) allowance trading within the Community.

Intertek is ISO 17025 accredited to performing the emission calculation analyses required, assisting clients in sampling and conducting tests to determine the emission factor and oxidation factor in products such as gas natural, refinery gas, fuel oil, diesel, coal and petroleum coke.

Calculation factors based on analysis:
Intertek ensures that emission factor related analyses, sampling, calibration and validation activities for the determination of calculation factors are carried out by applying methods based on
corresponding EN standards.

Calculations of emissions shall be performed using the formula:
Activity data × Emission factor × Oxidation factor

Intertek is accredited by ENAC according to EN ISO 17020 to perform sampling of liquid petroleum products (EN ISO 3170) and natural gas (EN ISO 10715), whose execution is necessary for the preparation of the sampling plan required by the Regulation.

Laboratories testing for the determination of the emission calculation factors must be accredited in accordance with EN ISO/IEC 17025. Intertek, has been working with combined cycles and major refineries in Spain for CO2 emissions control through testing services and validation/verification of measurement equipments.
