Intertek launches food packaging EU compliance support program
Program to help companies meet EU Framework Regulation 1935/2004 (EC) for food contact materials.

Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions serving a wide range of industries around the world, provides a new compliance program to assist companies in meeting EU rules (and national rules) regarding the permissible chemical reactions between food and the surrounding packaging.
Within the European Union companies’ of food packaging materials must meet certain chemical-composition and reaction requirements in the EU. The regulations stipulate that certain materials and articles that come into contact with foodstuffs must be produced in compliance with good manufacturing practices, and cannot transfer their components into food in such quantities that could endanger human health, change the composition of the food in an unacceptable way, or deteriorate the taste and odour of foodstuffs. A ‘Declaration of Compliance’ is required for a scope of wider food-packaging materials under EU Framework Regulation 1935/2004 (EC).
The EU regulation is also accompanied by several directives, amendments and guidelines, making compliance more difficult. Intertek’s food packaging compliance programme and Intertek’s consultants will help companies in the food retail, food manufacturing, packaging and plastics industries understand the changes and ease the process for ensuring that materials intended to come into contact with food or beverages are in compliance.
