Downhole Tubular Integrity Management

Downhole Tubular Degradation Assessment and Management.

Intertek has significant experience and expertise in the assessment and management of downhole tubular degradation problems. Intertek engineers cover a range of downhole applications including gas and oil wells, brine wells, hydrocarbon storage wells, geothermal wells, and water wells. The degradation mechanisms have included corrosion (including internal tubing/casing corrosion and external casing corrosion), erosion, and casing fracture at box and pin connections.

Experience also includes evaluation of well logging data and the execution and interpretation of downhole video examinations. Intertek’s team includes experts in metallurgy, corrosion, welding, stress analysis, well completion, and maintenance techniques.

Downhole Tubular Experience includes:

  • Finite Element (FE) stress analysis of pion and box connections to establish limit stress states for fracture.
  • Development of fracture mechanics-based flaw acceptance criteria for high strength casing (P110)
  • Evaluation of casing corrosion in geothermal wells and the combined effect of corrosion and erosion on casing wall loss.
  • Determination of water well fouling causes and casing corrosion studies.
  • Root cause analysis of downhole casing fractures; evaluation of well completion methods.
  • Integrity evaluation of seal welded coupling/casing connections.
  • Management of downhole casing corrosion.
