Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, is pleased to announce that it has extended its Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing capabilities to cover Radio Equipment Testing. This latest development will see Intertek invest in radio testing equipment at its state-of-the-art EMC facility in Leatherhead, UK.

With the emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and technologies such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC, more products are becoming interconnected and behaving like radio equipment. Consequently, the radio spectrum has become a larger part of day-to-day life, and the efficient use of the spectrum has become a mandatory requirement as per the Radio Equipment Directive (RED). These new requirements have changed the design and performance of many products.

In 2016, the EU Commission replaced the R&TTE Directive with the RED. All products with radio connectivity no longer need to declare via the Low Voltage and EMC Directives, but solely via the RED Directive. In addition, all new and existing products within the scope of RED must comply in order to achieve CE marking. Manufacturers may have tested their products for EMC compliance previously, but now must also test their products to the latest requirements of the RED.

With many years’ experience in the Radio Equipment Directive, Intertek’s accredited test laboratories for radio products deliver both CE and FCC approvals global.

Rob van Dorp, Intertek UK & Eire Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to now be in a position to support our customers with their radio testing and wireless requirements. We have been providing expert guidance on RED requirements for many years and have now extended our capabilities in the UK to include comprehensive testing and certification services. Our experience and expertise helps products achieve CE marking and to reach global markets with speed and efficiency.”
