Intertek to provide Total Quality Assurance testing solutions for Australia’s Future Submarine Program

Adelaide, Australia - Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, was recently awarded a contract for the provision of steel testing services and non-destructive testing (NDT) for the Australian Future Submarine Program.
Intertek has signed one of the first total quality assurance contracts with Naval Group, a European leader in naval defense. Intertek will partner with Naval Group during the procurement of locally manufactured steel for the Australian Future Submarine Program, and conduct NDT on the material to not only validate quality but also ensure adherence to construction requirements.
NDT is vital for assessing quality and safety through the detection of defects and irregularities. The growing need to utilize NDT is a result of companies looking to extend the life of components and assets while also adhering to increased regulation. Intertek’s experts provide a complete examination of components, equipment and assets using advanced and conventional NDT techniques for customers in a wide variety of industries and sectors.
As part of the Future Submarine Program, Intertek will provide testing support for Naval Group as the company designs and builds 12 superior submarines for the Royal Australian Navy. The Future Submarines will replace the Collins-class submarines and will enter service in the early 2030s with construction extending into the late 2040s to 2050. The Program is estimated to cost AUD $50 billion and will be the largest and most complex defense acquisition project in Australian history.
