Chicago – Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, announces the launch of ANSI/UL 2900 assessment services for connected products. These solutions will be help manufacturers of network-connected devices across multiple industries including lighting, appliances, medical devices, HVACR, wireless and mobile produce more secure products.

ANSI/UL 2900 is a series of standards providing measurable criteria for the testing of network-connected devices to mitigate potential security vulnerabilities and exploits as the devices send, store or transmit data. The number of connected devices on the market continues to grow rapidly, and it is estimated that 80 percent of connected devices are vulnerable to data breaches.1 Manufacturers must take steps to ensure their products and networks are secure and work with other connected devices.

Intertek’s ANSI/UL 2900 services will assist manufacturers by offering:

  • Advisory services: To understand products, security concerns and develop a roadmap for evaluations and assessments
  • Initial gap analysis: For the identification of potential vulnerabilities that can be addressed prior to the full ANSI/UL 2900 evaluation process
  • ANSI/UL 2900 full evaluations: A complete testing of a product to the full scope of the standards, to help ensure that a device meets present industry requirements for cyber security.

Sunny Rai, Senior Vice President at Intertek, commented: “At Intertek, we strive to provide innovative Total Quality Assurance solutions to customers across multiple industries. As the Internet of Things continues to grow, more manufactures from varying sectors are integrating connected capabilities into their products. We are pleased to build upon our years of experience in software, safety and performance testing to offer solutions and assessments for ANSI/UL 2900 to anyone looking to bring secured networked products to market.”
