Intertek, a leading provider of quality solutions worldwide, is the first company to be approved by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) to conduct testing and certification services for both low and medium power (15 watts) Qi products in its Hong Kong Lab.

Wireless charging technology has been integrated into hundreds of products, from the cars we drive to the furniture and appliances in our homes and offices. Qi, the global standard for wireless power driven by WPC, is the world’s leading method for transferring electrical power without wires safely and efficiently.

As the demand for wireless power expands, the ecosystem of products grows as well. This flourishing ecosystem rests on the ability of Qi-Authorized Testing Laboratory (ATLs) to confirm compliance and interoperability. Intertek is one of 15 authorized testing laboratories around the world, and the first to be certified for the V.1.2 specification release. A rigid certification process assures a smooth, consistent user experience and provides peace of mind for Qi-compatible device owners that their devices will be supported even as the specification evolves and progresses.

“We are delighted that our testing laboratory in Hong Kong is the world’s first to be approved by WPC to provide one-stop Qi testing services worldwide from low to medium power Qi products,” said Ms. Christina Law, Chief Executive of North East Asia, Intertek. “Coupled with our global expertise in electrical and wireless testing, we strive to help our customers get their wireless products certified with the highly-recognized Qi standard.”

“Growing certification network helps meet the demand of an expanding Qi ecosystem,” said Menno Treffers, Chairman of the WPC. “Qi approved testing labs play a key role in confirming compliance and interoperability, thus to ensure favorable user experience and protect the Qi brand. We are excited that Intertek has led the way with this important step.”
