Pittsfield, Mass. - Intertek (LSE: ITRK), a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, today announced it has received IEC/ISO 17025:2005 accreditation for the film and packaging industry from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA). The accreditation complements Intertek’s existing extensive capabilities for plastic film characterization, including services focused on mechanical, thermal, and optical properties.

“An accreditation like this is a critical step in the completion of Intertek’s strategy to offer a wide range of advanced film and packaging testing for the medical, food, industrial, and consumer goods industries,” says James Galipeau, Director of Intertek’s Pittsfield laboratory. “This accreditation broadens the reach of the advanced material characterization we offer to the packaging industry.”

ISO 17025:2005, the international standard by which a laboratory’s commitment to quality is evaluated not only considers management and technical expertise, but also emphasizes continual product and process improvement. To achieve this accreditation, Intertek demonstrated competence in water vapor transmission rate and oxygen transmission rate testing for advanced barrier films used in transportation, energy, medical, and consumer goods, as well as specialized flexible film tests applications, including Gelbo-Flex and hot seal strength/hot tack testing.

Intertek provides advanced testing services for materials analysis and research and development (R&D).
