Dubai, UAE – Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, will be highlighting the benefits of non-destructive testing (NDT) in extending the lifespan of oil and gas assets whilst complying with regulations at the Middle East Steel Conference (MESC) October 21-23, 2014.

Experts from Intertek INSPEC will discuss NDT services at the event and guest speakers Santanu Saha, Specialized Technical Manager, and Amaresh Majumder, Specialized Inspection Manager, will present on ‘Detection of hydrogen-induced cracks during in-service inspection of piping using ultrasonic phased arrays – assessment of fitness for service.’  The presentation will be at 2 p.m on October 22nd in the Intercontinental Hotel Dubai – Festival City.

The Middle East Steel Conference focuses on steel protection and product technology, particularly solutions that address the growing needs of the oil and gas industry. The theme for MESC 2014 is “Enhancing the Quality of Steel in Middle East”, and its objective is to create a forum for facilitating the exchange of practical experiences in all aspects of steel production and protection engineering in addition to seeking solutions to the various challenges that materials engineers face.

Roger Kay, Intertek INSPEC’s General Manager, said, “Without permanently altering or damaging the items being tested, our experts utilize non-destructive testing (NDT) as the most important non-intrusive method to help in the diagnosis of component failure analysis and the extension of life span of engineering components.

Growing demand for conventional and specialized NDT services is being driven by the need to comply with increased regulation and standardization.  Owners are looking to extend the lifespan of working assets and assure against product failure by utilizing these specialized techniques.”

Intertek acquired International Inspection Services Ltd (INSPEC) in March 2014 and the company’s broad service portfolio includes traditional non-destructive testing using X-ray alongside specialized inspection services that use advanced technologies such as phased array, eddy current and thermography.

Intertek’s accredited NDT specialists serve a wide range of sectors on-site or from purpose built testing facilities, providing both analytical and technical consulting services. From facilities such as the one based in Al Jadaf, Dubai, Intertek offers materials testing services to support life extension and integrity management plans.  The company supports a wide range of industries including aerospace, nuclear and conventional power generation, oil, gas, petrochemical, mining, engineering, fabrication, rail, defense, marine, motorsport and transportation.
