Oak Brook, IL – Intertek is pleased to announce that President Barack Obama nominated Joseph Mohorovic, Intertek Senior Vice President, to serve as a Member of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the federal agency charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of the thousands of types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction.

Since 2007, Mr. Mohorovic has held executive roles with Intertek, a leading global provider of product evaluation testing and certification services for a wide range of industries around the world.  Intertek helps global brands and retailers set, meet, maintain and evolve quality, safety and performance standards for their product lines, operations and supply chains. At Intertek, Mr. Mohorovic works with the company’s top retail and manufacturing clients to navigate the changing regulatory environment of the consumer products industry.

“We are very proud of Joe’s nomination by President Obama.  Having a member of our leadership team nominated for such a prestigious role is a great acknowledgement of the work that Intertek provides in support of product safety.” said Gregg Tiemann, Chief Executive, Products, Intertek.

Mr. Mohorovic’s professional experience in the field of product safety dates back to 2002, when he first joined the CPSC.  During his four-year tenure at the agency, he served in various roles, including as Chief of Staff and first Director of the Office of International Programs. He oversaw and coordinated CPSC’s international and intergovernmental efforts with respect to harmonization of consumer product safety standards development, inspection and enforcement coordination.  Notably, while serving at the CPSC, Mr. Mohorovic was instrumental in successfully negotiating 12 Memorandums of Understanding with major U.S. international trading partners.1In 2006, he was elected the first Chairman of the International Consumer Product Safety Caucus (ICPSC).2 The ICPSC is the only global platform for consumer product safety regulators and market surveillance authorities.

Mr. Mohorovic’s public service predates his service at the CPSC.  In 1998 he was elected to the New Mexico State House of Representatives, where he served until resigning his seat in 2002 to join the CPSC. Mr. Mohorovic holds a bachelor’s degree in history and government from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s in business administration from the Anderson School of Business Management at the University of New Mexico.
