Intertek’s commitment to safety reduces risk, empowers employees

Texas City, Texas – Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries worldwide, today announced that its USA-based Asset Integrity Management (AIM) In Service Inspection group surpassed three million work hours without a lost-time accident or injury. Working in high risk industries such as the energy industry, the possibilities of work-related injuries are always present.

"Safety and quality create the foundation on which the AIM In-Service Inspection culture is built. Our clients seek partners that can demonstrate their commitment to safe working practices.  We are proud to achieve three million hours of accident and injury free time.  This will continue to empower employees with a growing safety culture that is built-in and embraced by all levels", said Mark Vining, In Service Inspection Operations Manager.

Intertek AIM’s In Service Inspection group employs certified professionals for the refining, petrochemical, power, and oil and gas industries.   These professionals and the services they offer help clients minimize risk, increase efficiency, and maintain safe and reliable facilities.  Services include on-stream mechanical integrity programs, maintenance turnaround inspection support, new facility construction, and vendor surveillance.

In-Service Inspection Safety Manager Gerald Killian put the record into perspective when he stated, "According to the USA Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) is approx 1.0 for companies that provide professional, scientific, and technical services (NAISC service code 531).  This injury rate equates to 5 injuries for every one million work hours.  If we performed at the industry rate, then we would have had 15 injuries during this three million hour time frame. However, because we drive safety initiatives across all levels, everyone understands that unsafe or at-risk behavior is not tolerated. Employees feel sanctioned to facilitate best practices for safe behavior.”  A constant commitment to safety and open communication has aided the AIM In Service Inspection group’s unwavering safety record leading to more efficient operation and better quality. All employees within this group must adhere to not only their own strict standards, but also those of external oversight organizations, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
