Allentown, PA – Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries around the world, has expanded our testing capabilities in Allentown, PA through the addition of solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)

Solid state NMR is a specialized characterization technique used to determine chemical composition or structural properties in a variety of industrially relevant materials. The technology brings the benefits of solutions NMR including detailed chemical structural details and quantification. Intertek scientists leverage the unique application of this technique in combination with others such as Raman or powder x-ray diffraction to solve challenging material or process problems.

Applications for Intertek’s expanded services include identifying polymorphs, characterizing crystalline forms, framework characterization of zeolites and chemical composition determination in range of insoluble polymers and plastics.

Businesses such as petroleum, chemical and pharmaceutical can benefit from this service by understanding changes in catalyst forms with process conditions, establishing manufacturing impacts on API forms, and supporting new material development and R&D activities broadly.

Solid state NMR is an important complement to our already strong material problem-solving analytical tools at Intertek,” said Dr. Paula McDaniel, Business Development Manager of Intertek Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Allentown. “This is a technique that can uniquely solve challenging problems for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and plastics industries. Combining this capability with the material expertise available within Intertek is a particular powerful combination for our customers.”
