After a £1million investment, Intertek officially opened their expanded facilities for life safety and security product testing in Leatherhead, Surrey, UK on Thursday 24th November 2011. Believed to be the largest capital expenditure project of its kind in Europe, the extended facility complements Intertek’s existing Safety, EMC, ATEX and Environmental testing facilities in the town and brings an additional boost to the company’s existing a global network of laboratories.

The ceremony was attended by over 25 specially invited fire industry guests and the ribbon was cut by regional dignitary Councillor Bridget Lewis-Carr, Chairman of Mole Valley Council. Guests enjoyed hot and cold canapés with sparkling wine as well as a private tour hosted by Intertek experts Daniel Griffin, Gordon Ash and Clare Groombridge.

The facility, developed to serve the fire and security manufacturing sectors as they work to comply with the new Construction Product Regulations in the EU and to meet the mandatory requirements of their target export markets further afield, contains:

  • Fire test room for EN 54-7, prEN54-27 and UL268 and CSA
  • Smoke tunnel for EN 54-5/7 and EN 14604
  • Acoustic chamber with internal dimensions of 9m long x 5m high x 5m wide
  • So2 test chamber 980ml
  • 3 x walk in Environmental chambers
  • 6 x 1m cube Environmental chambers
  • 4 x Vibration systems
  • 8 EMC chambers (upto 200V/m between 10kHz – 18GHz)
  • 4 screened rooms

Talban Sohi, UK Director of Intertek Commercial & Electrical Division, said “This new facility not only provides a number of new engineering jobs and apprenticeships for the local community, but it represents our commitment to providing a centre of technical excellence to our UK and European customers and partners in the Fire and Security sector. As well as being a testing and certification facility it has also been designed to allow industry to use it for Research & Development purposes. Together with our ability to recognise manufacturers own test results through the Intertek Satellite program, we believe we offer truly innovative and flexible routes for manufacturers to gain faster access to market for their products. The experts at this site look forward to helping manufacturers meet their obligations under the incoming Construction Products Regulations for Europe and to help them access other international markets, such as North America, with smart and efficient product test and assessment services.”

The facility is located at Unit C, Imperial Park, Randalls Way, Leatherhead, Surrey KT22 7TS, easily accessible from the M25.
