May 03, 2011
Web-based Solution Guides Companies Through Compliance Requirements, Stores Documentation
Oak Brook,
Ill. – Beginning July 20, 2011, toys and children’s products sold in Europe
must comply with the new EU Toy Directive
2009/48/EC. To help manufacturers and importers ensure compliance, Intertek,
a leading provider of quality and safety solutions serving a wide range of
industries, developed iComply™,
a user-friendly,
web-based artificial intelligence application facilitating collaborative supply
chain assembly of technical files.
The new EU Toy Directive identifies updated record-keeping requirements with which manufacturers must comply. These stipulate that manufacturers must complete, provide upon request and retain for 10 years the following items:
- EC Declaration of Conformity (DoC) that
ensures a specific product meets all applicable safety provisions, including
documentation required in Modules A, B and/or C
- Complete technical documentation that should
contain a detailed product description, safety assessment, description of
conformity assessment procedure, EC declaration of conformity, test reports and
copy of the EC-type examination certificate
- Safety assessments to identify potential hazards and the exposure to such hazards as outlined under Article 18
iComply™ is a user-friendly compliance application built on artificial intelligence that offers web-based convenience to:
- Guide you through the compliance process
(identifies requirements, prompts testing) for Modules A, B and/or C
- Help you demonstrate due diligence
- Capture compliance documentation
- Generate compliance certificates (EU DoC)
- Manage compliance without increase of staff / costs
iComply™
is now available for an annual fee of $99 USD. iComply™ not only ensures
compliance with the new EU Toy Directive, but also features a module for the
forthcoming U.S.
CPSIA Testing and Certification Rule, with modules in development for the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act
and U.S. California Proposition 65.
