Intertek Gives Retail Industry a Sneak Preview of CPSIA Compliance Tool iComply™ at National Retail Federation’s 100th Annual Convention

iComply Enables Regulated Entities to Demonstrate Compliance with Stringent Record-keeping Requirements of CPSIA’s Testing & Certification Rule

New York, NY – The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) sent shockwaves through the consumer goods industry with its complex requirements around third-party testing for regulated products. The CPSIA’s proposed Testing & Certification Rule promises another jolt as the record-keeping requirements for the testing and certification of regulated products become even more challenging for U.S. importers of record and manufacturers. Intertek developed iComply™ to help regulated entities ensure compliance with the Testing & Certification Rule, without disruption to existing business processes. Intertek hosted demonstrations of this powerful new compliance tool during the National Retail Federation’s BIG Show, January 10-11, in booth #2572 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

iComply™ is an automated artificial intelligence application to help regulated entities ensure and demonstrate compliance with the CPSIA’s Testing & Certification Rule. iComply™ is a simple, user-friendly solution built on sophisticated technology that takes a sequence of product-specific information entered by the importer or manufacturer, produces a production test plan, generates a General Certificate of Compliance (GCC) and stores all documentation in a complete technical file, all of which is available for easy access 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“The CPSIA’s Testing & Certification Rule will require U.S. manufacturers and importers of record to demonstrate due care and a high degree of assurance that their regulated products comply with relevant laws and regulations,” said Gene Rider, President of Intertek Consumer Goods North America. “With iComply™, U.S. importers and manufacturers can have detailed documentation about their products at their fingertips, and can quickly fulfill requests by regulatory agencies, retailers or distributors.”

The functionality of iComply™ enables importers and manufacturers to:

  • Capture compliance documentation of multiple products and multiple manufacturers
  • Create a production test plan with applicable test requirements and periodic testing guidelines
  • Generate a GCC based on a reasonable testing program, which is required to be furnished to retailers and distributors upon request
  • Manage a robust compliance program without the need for additional quality assurance or other employees
  • Track both material change and remedial actions across the global supply chain
  • Store in an easy-to-access 24/7 single source all required record-keeping documentation, including the GCC
