With the gift-giving season quickly approaching, Intertek is pleased to see Radio Flyer’s Push, Pull and Ride Wagon  revealed as the first toy to be certified under the Toy Industry Association’s newly launched Toy Safety Certification Program (TSCP) . As a leading provider of quality and safety solutions worldwide, Intertek is an ANSI-accredited and Toy Industry Association (TIA) recognized certification body that’s worked in tandem with the legendary wagon maker to oversee design appraisals, factory process control evaluations, test reports and related documents to assure compliance with safety standards mandated by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA).

Recent attention towards children’s product recalls has highlighted the need for manufacturers to consider safety hazards from early on in the design process. “It’s essential for manufacturers to take a more holistic approach at safety,” said Gene Rider, President of Intertek Consumer Goods. “We’ve worked with toy industry leaders, such as Radio Flyer, early on in their planning process to understand potential usage of the end product and to identify safe product design.”

In addition to meeting TSCP and regulatory specifications, Intertek guides manufacturers using its own Design Hazard Analysis (DHA)  criteria, which helps integrate safety into the modelling process of product development. Companies can thus effectively minimize production setbacks, costly rework, and post-distribution problems resulting in failures and recalls. Using historical data, simulations and child development research, Intertek can help toy makers consider every aspect of foreseeable use before a product is brought to market.

Shenwei Zhu, Senior Quality Assurance Engineer for Radio Flyer said, “We have partnered with Intertek throughout our product development cycles to ensure we design safe products that go beyond regulations. Throughout the TSCP certification process, Intertek’s integrity, fast and friendly service, and global outreach helped us to ensure that our products are manufactured to the highest industry standards.”
