Intertek, the leading provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries and Environ, a leading international environmental consultancy and manager of the industry-led substances declarations web database www.BOMcheck.net, will be hosting a free webinar on the Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemical’s (REACH) Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) and the expanded requirements of the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive.

Enacted in 2006, the European Union REACH Regulation requires registration of chemicals and communication of Candidate List Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) to consumers. Any consumer, under REACH, has the right to request information on whether any specific product contains any of these SVHCs over 0.1% by weight and the supplier is required by law to communicate this information to the consumer within forty-five (45) days. The European Union RoHS Directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

With another draft REACH SVHC Candidate List recently released and new risk assessment requirements for sample testing proposed under the new EU RoHS Directive, Intertek and ENVIRON will present a webinar titled “Restricted and Declarable Substances: REACH, RoHS and Beyond.” This exclusive free webinar will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 10.00am to 11.00am EDT and will provide essential information on how companies can adopt cost-effective approaches to REACH and RoHS2 compliance. The webinar will highlight how equipment manufacturers and suppliers are working together to share a single substance declarations web database system and to maintain a common list of substances. The initiative includes Philips, Osram, Siemens, GE, Agfa, Texas Instruments, Epcos, FUJIFILM and many others.

The key issues to be covered during the webinar are:

  • RoHS2 obligations for risk assessment of level of sample testing required
  • SVHCs on the draft new REACH Candidate List that can be found in hardware products and electrical and electronic equipment
  • Industry-led substances declarations web database and common list of substances
  • Material and product restricted and declarable substance screening and chemical testing
  • Supplier conformance assurance systems
