Intertek and IQTC Collaborate to Provide Solutions for China’s Textile and Garment Importers and Exporters
Intertek and Guangdong Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center (IQTC) entered into agreement this past April to jointly provide the value-added solution of “One Testing and Two Reports” starting May 2009 and on.
This exclusive new service offering assists textile and garment companies in meeting various national and international regulatory standards by granting one cycle of testing with Intertek to produce actually two different but necessary reports. In order to export out of China, not only do you need a testing report from a third party testing provider stating you took the necessary precautions to ensure the safety and quality of your product, but you also need what is known as an IQTC report. This IQTC report required is closely reviewed locally by Chinese authorities before exportation can occur to further ensure the merchandise exporting out of China is well controlled and meets overseas requirements. Now, the same Intertek test and accompanying test report generated, recognized by the IQTC, can be used to actually produce the IQTC report. From this innovative partnership between Intertek and IQTC, manufacturers can now reduce testing costs by avoiding duplication of testing itself while simultaneously shortening their overall time to market.
Intertek’s Executive Vice President, Paul Yao, explains, “The cooperation between Intertek and IQTC bears dual significance. It not only fosters exporting companies to improve product quality, increase competitiveness in the international market and maintain sustainable development, but it also helps each company raise efficiency, reduce costs and uphold a competitive advantage in the industry.”
With Europe and the U.S. releasing export quota limitations on textiles made in China, Chinese garment exporters have been entering a free trade era of “Borderless Trade” since Jan 1, 2009. However, this is not to say that releasing trade quotas does not carry a risk in itself - such as product recalls, returns, and claims that can bestow great burdens upon both importing countries and Chinese exporters alike. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the PRC accords great importance to the quality of export garments and as a result has strengthened significantly the supervision of the exportation of garments out of China. Special inspections by AQSIQ have been conducted on the quality of textile and garments in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and are expected to continue.
Related seminars and trainings will be held by Intertek to enhance clients’ understanding of the technical requirements necessary and how to implement the process into their supply chain seamlessly.
