Pulverising of Geological Samples

Pulverising is carried out on crushed or relatively fine products to achieve a fine homogeneous powder to enable representative small sub-samples to be taken for analysis.

All devices used in the crushing and pulverising of geological samples can impart trace levels of contaminants to the samples for analysis. Low chrome steel is often the preferred material of choice for pulverising vessels as the chrome and iron contamination is usually negligible compared to the levels commonly encountered in most geological materials. Other options such as tungsten carbide and zirconia vessels are available, if required.

The choice of bowl material enables Intertek mineral laboratories to avoid contamination issues for the potential elements of  client interest. Close and ongoing consultation with the appropriate Intertek staff is our assurance that the optimal sample preparation techniques are employed thus maximising the value added in the analytical process.
