Particle Size Analysis of Geological Samples
Particle size analysis of mineral screening has a range of uses within geochemical and metallurgical applications. The distribution data is commonly used to check the efficiency of grinding processes.
Intertek's Mineral laboratories use laser sizing for particle size analysis. This technique measures the degree to which light is scattered by particles in suspension, and relates this to the particle size distribution. A continuous particle size-distribution ranging from sub-micron size to millimeter size is thus obtained.
Conventional particle size analysis is determined by passing the sample through a series of screens of known aperture, by weighing the sample retained on the top of the screens and sieving the remainder of the sample through screens of progressively smaller aperture, a particle size distribution can be determined.
