Intertek provides specialized bacteria media test kits for microbiological testing for oil and gas clients on a global basis. The bacterial growth media and accessories detect and quantify the microorganisms responsible for microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), for oil-field process water and cooling systems, and are manufactured in accordance with NACE, ICorrST and API recommendations. Field test kits for potable water testing are also available.

Broths and media can be made to one of four formulations to suit the salinity of the system under investigation; Freshwater, Seawater, Produced water and Brines. The media is formulated according to NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) standard TM0194. Media sold in anaerobic glass vials are designed to be used to prepare dilution series to enable the quantification of corrosion associated microorganisms. Use of these vials requires syringes and multiple vials per sample; whereas, if only a yes/no indication is needed to see quckly if a sample contains high enough concentration of corrosion associated microorganisms to be of concern then the quick-format media packaged in plastic single-use containers (no syringes) would be appropriate.

Microbe Field Test Kits for Oil and Gas clients include: 

SRB: Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) media consisting of modified Postgate B media and contains precipitated salts (formerly MPB media). Anaerobic glass vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.

SRB2: Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) media formulated to allow the growth of a wide range of SRB but contains no precipitated salts. Anaerobic glass vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.

APB: Acid Producing Bacteria (APB) media containing phenol red dye (formerly PRD media) and also allows growth of General Anaerobic Bacteria (GAB). Anaerobic glass vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.

NRB: Nitrate Reducing Bacteria (NRB) media, additionally nitrate/nitrite test kits are included. Anaerobic glass vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.

IRB: Iron Reducing Bacteria (IRB) media for quantification of anaerobic bacteria that metabolize iron. Anaerobic glass vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.

HAB: Heterotrophic Aerobic Bacteria (HAB) media for quantification of aerobic bacteria. Glass vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.
SRB-Q Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB) media in a Quick Test single vial format so no dilutions/no syringes are required. Plastic vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.

APB-Q: Acid Producing Bacteria (APB) media in a Quick Test single vial format so no dilutions/no syringes are required. Plastic vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.

NRB-Q: Nitrate Reducing Bacteria (NRB) media in a Quick Test single vial format so no dilutions/no syringes are required. Plastic vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.

IRB-Q: Iron Reducing Bacteria (IRB) media in a Quick Test single vial format so no dilutions/no syringes are required. Plastic vials sold in boxes of 12 or cases of 288 vials.

Combi Kits Contains one box of each of two types of media for cultivation of SRB and APB (or other combinations of bacteria upon request) plus all the materials needed for a sampling event (syringes, needles, alcohol pads, swabs, sterile diluent, and instruction sheet).
