Residential Baseboard and Commercial Finned Tube Testing
Intertek uses a state of the art approach for testing Residential Baseboard and Commercial Finned Tubes in order to help manufacturers meet performance requirements established by specifiers, buyers and regulatory authorities.
Intertek can assist with product development by testing your Residential Baseboard and Commercial Finned Tubes in a specially designed chamber utilizing two separate test methods:
- Electrical Method – Measures the energy consumed in the loop during two different setups. The first test is the no-load test, measuring the watts lost in the loop with no sample installed. The second test measures the watts lost in the loop with the unit installed. The difference divided by the active length will determine the capacity of the unit.
- Weight Method – Measures the water temperature entering and exiting the unit, as well as the flow rate through the unit. Multiplying the flow rate by the temperature drop over the unit, then dividing by the active length will determine its capacity.
We use a fully automated test process, using equipment that is calibrated to measure levels well beyond industry regulations. This means your unit will be analyzed with the most sophisticated processes available, giving you confidence that your product has been accurately assessed. Trust the experience Intertek brings as the world’s largest independent HVAC/R testing company, with over six decades of experience in supporting the HVAC/R industry, to test your Residential Baseboard and Commercial Finned Tubes.
Testing Standards
The Hydronics Institute Division of GAMA, now AHRI, provides the following Standards for testing Residential Baseboard and Commercial Finned Tubes:
- Baseboard Radiation – IBR (Institute of Boiler and Radiator Manufacturers) Eighth (8th) Edition, July 2005 (008 Rev 07 05)
- Finned Tube (Commercial) Radiation – IBR Sixth (6th) Edition, July 2005 (009 Rev 07 05)
Calibration Credentials
Using a state-of-the-art testing chamber with the most sophisticated testing equipment available, your unit will be rated with extreme accuracy. The calibrated equipment used to test Residential Baseboard and Commercial Finned Tubes includes the Micro Motion® Elite® series flow meter, calibrated to 0.01%. Water temperature is read by the Rosemount Platinum RTD, calibrated to +/-0.1°F. Testing capacity in the chamber can reach 20,500 Btu. Room conditioning remains within a one degree Fahrenheit fault tolerance.
