An Intertek inspection programme creates the confidence that shipments comply with the specifications agreed between the exporter and buyer, and assists buyers to clear goods rapidly on arrival in Sierra Leone.
When exporting to Sierra Leone, the following Intertek process must be followed:
Physical Inspection – All packages or containers of goods are inspected and sealed.
Preparation of Exporter Certificates – Issued once Intertek has received a copy of final invoice.
Preparation of Importer Certificates – Your buyer is issued an Importer Certificate.
Clearance of Goods – Your buyer can clear the shipment through customs.
In July 2004, Intertek was awarded a 10-year government contract to build and implement a Cargo Scanning Facility in the Port of Freetown in Sierra Leone, under a Build Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) scheme. Intertek was awarded the contract because we could comprehensively meet the needs of Sierra Leone and had a proven track record.
Since the Facility became operational, Intertek has assisted in the detection of significant quantities of contraband goods, including thousands of cigarettes, and the reduction of misdeclaration of container cargo, thereby increasing the import duty that is collected. Over time, the scanning unit has become a significant deterrent to those considering smuggling items into Sierra Leone.
