Presented by Yvonne Wood, Intertek UK's Food Operations Manager. Yvonne is a specialist microbiologist with over 25 years’ experience in the poultry industry. Yvonne initially trained as a medical microbiologist at the Hull Royal Infirmary and graduated in 1986. Yvonne moved into the poultry industry in 1980 working as working as a microbiologist for Hillsdown Foods who later became Moorland Poultry. In 1988 Yvonne moved to the Nigel Horrox Veterinary Group (a specialist poultry group) to help set up and obtain NAMAS (now UKAS) accreditation for Northern Hygiene Laboratories of which she was appointed Technical Director. At this time food testing was in its embryonic stage and NHVG/NHL was instrumental in developing methods for eradicating pathogens such as Salmonella enteritidis in poultry flocks. It was during this embryonic stage that tests were developed for Campylobacter and the first ISO was issued of which NHL was part of the verification process. Yvonne then worked as Quality Director and in various Operations roles within 3 leading contract laboratories prior to being recruited by Intertek to set up their new laboratory facility in Derby.
