Intertek hosts a workshop, presents and exhibits at ASME 2013 Power Conference

ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) 2013 Power Conference
July 29 – August 1, 2013
Boston, Massachusetts

The increased cycling operations (on/off and load following) at combined cycle power plants in the United States will increase the cycling-related production and maintenance costs at these plants. Owners and operators need to be aware of the increased costs that occur. While capacity factors decrease, the production costs will rise significantly due to cycling operations.

Nikhil Kumar, Intertek Asset Integrity Management’s (AIM) Director of Energy & Utility Analytics, will be presenting a workshop titled Fossil and Combined Cycle Power Plant Cycling Effects and Countermeasures.  During this workshop on Monday, July 29, 1:00 - 5:00 PM EST, Nikhil will discuss the negative impacts of cycling operations on a combined cycle power plant, the methods available to determine cycling costs, and the countermeasures that can be deployed.

Nikhil’s expertise includes the development and application of advanced methods for electric system planning and dispatch, merchant plant bidding, smart grid solutions, and asset management.  Recently, Nikhil has been working with various system operators, utilities, power plant owners and national labs on Renewable Integration studies.  His prior project experience includes assisting power plant owners in developing energy portfolio management strategies for maximizing energy revenues in deregulated markets across North America.

Intertek also will be presenting two papers on July 30th from 4:00  -  5 :30 p.m.  The first paper will be presented by Nikhil Kumar and it titled “Smart Asset Management – Using Real Time Transient Data to Determine Equipment Damage, Maintenance Costs, and Operational Strategy in Power Plants.”  The second paper will be presented by Doug Hilleman, Intertek AIM’s Senior Project Manager, titled “A New Paradigm – Cycling Operations at Nuclear Power Plants in the United States.”

We invite you to visit us at Booth #146 to discuss your power plant cycling operations or provide you with more information about the expert engineering services Intertek AIM offers to the power industry.
