Intertek Contributes to Shreir's Corrosion Handbook

The latest edition of Shreir’s Corrosion includes five chapters authored by corrosion experts from Intertek CAPCIS, Manchester, UK.

First published over 46 years ago, the Shreir's Corrosion handbook has is a major educational and reference work on all aspects of corrosion science and engineering. The latest edition incorporates all aspects of the corrosion phenomenon, from the science behind corrosion of metallic and non-metallic materials in liquids and gases to the management of corrosion in specific industries and applications. Intertek CAPCIS experts were invited to author chapters on a diverse series of corrosion topics including Corrosion in Soils, Corrosion in Wood and Management of Corrosion in the Oil & Gas Industry, Corrosion Management Overview, Economic Aspects of Corrosion, Mitigation of Corrosion Risks by Design.

Dr Jim Stott, Intertek CAPCIS’s Senior Consultant in Microbial Corrosion and author of Chapter 2.20: Corrosion in Microbial Environments said “It is was an honour to be invited to contribute a chapter to Shreir’s Corrosion as it is probably the most prestigious and long standing reference tool on corrosion science and technology that meets the research and knowledge needs of engineers, consultants, and students.”

Shreir’s corrosion was first published in 1963 and the fourth edition was developed in partnership with experts from the Corrosion and Protection Centre at the University of Manchester, where CAPCIS was founded in 1973. Dr Mick Schofield, Intertek CAPCIS’s Senior Consultant in Corrosion Resistant Alloys (authored Chapter 2.28: Corrosion in Wood) had previously contributed to the third edition, following on from CAPCIS Senior Consultant Henry Cole’s sterling contribution to the second edition.
