Intertek CAPCIS

Intertek CAPCIS materials consultancy.

Intertek CAPCIS offers expertise for integrity and asset management services to the oil and gas, utility, infrastructure, transport, legal and insurance sectors.

Orginating from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), CAPCIS has grown and developed over 35 years, establishing a reputation worldwide for its fundamental understanding, specialist expertise and advanced testing capabilities. These are enhanced by the broad capabilities within Intertek and through continued relationships with the University of Manchester.

Corrosion is an uncertain science, particularly where operating environments push the boundaries of current experience. Our approach is common to all projects driven by a scientific understanding and the development of knowledge focussed on reducing uncertainty, risk and conservatism to improve client decision making.

CAPCIS delivers expertise and knowledge of materials performance and corrosion control to assist clients in achieving effective asset management of capital intensive infrastructure in highly regulated industries.

Our consultancy expertise and specialist testing services cover the development of robust cost effective designs and material selection; the specification of Mitigation and Operational Management Strategies; the performance assessment and qualification of materials or chemical treatments within challenging operating environments; the delivery of improved operational performance through integrity assurance and condition monitoring programmes; and the prioritisation of future investment through degradation modelling of mature infrastructure.

CAPCIS understanding of the fundamental science behind materials and their behaviour in broad ranging physical and operating environments is paramount to our work. From the behaviour of flexible pipes in deepwater environments to the integrity of concrete tunnels in the underground; from the performance of corrosion inhibitors to the implications of stray current in Light Rail projects; from understanding the implications of sour aquifer production to the development of advanced degradation models for power transmission infrastructure; and from the development of new monitoring technologies to the provision of comprehensive failure investigation and expert witness services.

Materials are the building blocks of all capital-intensive infrastructure. CAPCIS provides its clients with the necessary technical, economic and risk based understanding of material performance to improve short-term operational performance and inform longer-term investment decision-making.
