Indonesia Enacts New Requirement for Food Contact Material Logo and Plastic Recycling Codes

The Indonesian Ministry of Industry has implemented and enforced the newest regulation – Peraturan Menteri Perindustrian No. 24/M-IND/PER/2/2010 – which requires food contact material logo and plastic recycling codes on plastic food packaging material. The enforcement went into in effect  on 12 August 2010.

The regulation is in effect for the following:

-  Industry: Local food plastic packaging manufacturer and importer of food plastic packaging

-  Product: Monolayered and multilayered with 1 (one) type of plastic material

As one of the monitoring bodies for this regulation, the Indonesian National Agency of Drug and Food Control (NADFC) held a one day conference on “Trends, Developments and Regulations on Food Packaging,” in conjunction with Indonesian Packaging Federation (IPF) on 4 August 2010. There were more than 100 participants, the majority of which were from major food packaging manufacturers and food manufacturers.
