Cashmere, known as “soft gold” for its very fine quality and rarity, is generally considered a luxurious textile for which consumers pay top dollar. However, in recent years the quality of cashmere has been declining due to global warming, crossbreeding and growing market demand. To differentiate the quality of products and to encourage the cashmere industry to improve the quality of cashmere, Intertek has launched the Intertek Cashmere Grading Certification Scheme to guide the healthy development of the cashmere industry.

The variation of fiber diameter, length and other indicators plays an important role in determining the quality of cashmere products.  The Intertek Cashmere Grading Certification Scheme is applicable to fiber, yarn, garments and accessories. Cashmere products are graded according to fiber diameter, fiber length, short fiber percentage, coarse fiber and foreign matter content. The four categories are divided as follows: super+ cashmere, super cashmere, cashmere and economy cashmere.

The certification includes laboratory testing, factory auditing and market surveillance. All certified products will receive a cashmere grading hangtag which can be searched through our website.
