Intertek’s Guatemala Accredited to Test to CPSIA in Central America

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) continues to evolve with new specifications, proving it to be difficult for companies to stay current with the latest requirements necessary to meet in order for their products to reach store shelves.

With CPSIA third-party testing as a mandatory step in the process of exporting children’s products to the United States, Latin American businesses find themselves seeking local support to ensure they are in compliance with the various requirements established.

As an internationally recognized and accredited third-party testing partner, Intertek is now accredited to test to the following CPSIA regulations in our Guatemala laboratory:

  • Lead Paint: 16 CFR Part 1303
  • Small Parts Rule: 16 CFR Part 1501
  • Lead in Children's Metal Jewelry: CPSC Test Method CPSC-CH-E1001-08
  • Lead in Children's Metal Products: CPSC Test Method CPSC-CH-E1001-08
  • Lead in Children's Non-Metal Products: CPSC Test Method CPSC-CH-E1002-08

Recently, Intertek has been ISO 17025 accredited for testing items of Phthalates and Extractable Heavy Metals. These new tests will enable us to give you the support needed to meet our client’s demands for faster turnaround time from our region.

Our ISO 17025 for the first CPSIA tests comes from OGA (Oficina Guatemalteca de Accreditación – Guatemalan Accreditation Office).
