Cardboard Packaging Evaluation

Cardboard, as a component of packaging, must meet certain quality characteristics and resistance requirements to ensure that it will preserve the product’s integrity during transportation, storage and delivery.

Cardboard evaluation is a fundamental tool in designing packaging that protects the product in any situation it encounters. Currently, many manufacturing processes look to reduce costs by selecting techniques and processes that help provide quality to raw materials at low cost.

To ensure the quality of these materials, Intertek Mexico offers cardboard assessment through various tests where the resistance of the cardboard is evaluated in different circumstances. These results help to guide decision making with regard to the type of raw material needed in order to complete the package design.

We have the state of the art equipment that has been selected to meet the demand of the companies responsible for manufacturing different kinds of cardboard used in the final packaging.

Services offered by Intertek Mexico:

  • Resistance to Blast (Bursting Strength Test or Mullen) - TAPPI T810
  • Compressive Strength at the Edge (ECT) - TAPPI T811 and TAPPI T823
  • % Water Absorption (Cobb Test) - TAPPI T441
  • Ink rubbing resistance (Sutherland Rub Test) - TAPPI T830 and ASTM D5264

Transit Tests (ISTA)

The original packaging is the container of a product which is made to properly preserve it during transportation, storage and delivery. To assure consumers that purchased products will reach the store or home with integrity is one of the top priorities of those in the industry. Beyond just designing attractive packaging, it is also required to evaluate the quality of these packages to make sure that they will comply with their purposes under all circumstances.

Intertek Mexico offers packaging evaluation tests (transit) through the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) certification, which enables us to provide testing services to ensure that your packaging will provide the necessary security for your product.

We have the state of the art equipment which simulates real-life circumstances related to transportation and storage of products, reproducing the effects that may occur to the packaging and the packaged product when it is distributed.
