Intertek Expands Product Certification and Quality Assurance Services for LED Decorative Lighting Strings

Intertek has expanded its ETL Mark certification to now include certification for LED decorative lighting strings. This service will offer manufacturers and retailers sales and technical support from Intertek’s more than 1,000 global locations, in addition to testing laboratories in four Lighting Centers of Excellence: Guangzhou, China; Kowloon, Hong Kong; Taipei, Taiwan; and Kista, Sweden.


Intertek Launches First South Asia High-Tech Furniture Lab in India

The launch of a new furniture lab in Guragon, India, has the designation of being Intertek’s first furniture lab in South Asia. The high-tech facility will focus on serving the rapidly growing Indian furniture market and offer customers testing for performance, safety, durability, and flammability for four major categories of furniture: domestic furniture, beds and mattresses, office furniture, and storage furniture.


Intertek Offers Aerosol Product Flammability Testing to EU Standards

Potential hazards associated with aerosol have prompted updates to EU and UK aerosol dispenser regulations to address the possible fire and explosion hazards of aerosol products. This has led Intertek to offer comprehensive flashpoint and projection tests for both aerosol products and their contents, to ensure compliance with the EU Aerosol Dispensers Directive and UK Aerosol Dispensers Regulations.


Intertek Expands Footwear Testing Capabilities in Shanghai

After doubling its physical lab space, Intertek’s Shanghai Footwear Testing Laboratory is now able to offer clients more comprehensive leather and footwear testing. This enhanced capability will now provide James Slip Resistance Testing, GB Non-marking testing, identification of leather, and physical and chemical testing of leather. Along with advances in testing capabilities, Intertek Shanghai is also further developing its professional footwear engineering team to provide greater guidance on regulations, testing methods, buyer requirements, and improvements for materials and shoes.


New LVD/EMC and R&TTE Legislations

In 2014, the European Parliament and Council enacted new directives for low voltage (LV) with the LVD Directive 2014/35/EU, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 2014/30/EU, and Radio and Telecommunication Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) Directive 2014/53/EU. With these new directives going into effect later this year, compliance dates have been established for products coming onto the market.


Intertek Hosts Grand Opening of Qi Wireless Charging Testing Laboratory

Intertek’s Hong Kong lab is the world’s first laboratory accredited to test for Qi extended/basic-power wireless charging.

Qi (pronounced “Chee”) is the wireless-charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium that enables transmission of electrical power without wires safely and efficiently.


LG and Intertek Expand Alliance to Support Air Conditioning and Energy Solutions

Under a new agreement, LG products such as LED lighting, solar panels, and air conditioning systems will be tested by Intertek for energy efficiency, electromagnetic compatibility, environmental requirements, performance, and safety.


China Publishes New RoHS Regulation

The new standard “Measures for Administration on the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical Appliances and Electronic Products,” will be implemented as of July 1, 2016, with the previous standard “Measures for Administration of the Pollution Control of Electronic Information Products,” being repealed.

Intertek Exhibits at Select Moda and Intermoda Tradeshows
Intertek attended the Select Moda Tradeshow held January 13-14, 2016, in Guadalajara, Mexico, to offer solutions to address the testing, quality inspection, and quality assurance needs of retailers, manufacturers, and importers. In addition, the tradeshow served as an opportunity for Intertek to educate attendees about restricted substances and heavy metals in shoes with a presentation by Intertek textiles and footwear experts.

Intertek was also an exhibitor at Intermoda 2016, the largest fashion trade show in Latin America. Intertek’s involvement included workshops and business meetings to assist those in the industry strengthen their business and develop new partnerships.
