On March 31, 2015, the Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) approved to adopt the new care labeling symbols based on the mandatory standard JIS L 0001 : 2014 “ Textiles – Care Labeling Code Using Symbols,” which replaces the current care labeling standard JIS L 0217: 1995 under the Household Goods Quality Labeling Regulation in order to harmonize the ISO international care labeling system. It comes into the effect on Dec. 1, 2016.

After the effective date, only new care label symbols is accepted for the applicable textile products when it sold in the market.
