Intertek is committed to its environmental responsibility. A first in the industry, Intertek now offers customers a mechanism to jointly offset the GHG emissions generated by the Intertek auditing services they have used globally.
International climate change initiatives, including the Kyoto Protocol and the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) Climate Neutral Network, are pushing nations and industry to drastically reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This includes the emissions generated through the procurement of services and their total emissions footprint. In addition, partners and suppliers are facing increasing pressure from their customers to be able to quantify and demonstrate their environmental footprint.
As an industry first, the Intertek Carbon Offset Program provides a mechanism for Intertek customers to jointly offset GHG emissions generated for the services they receive. Initially, Intertek will support carbon offsets to all auditing services provided though this will expand to include our range quality and safety services, in due course.
Through this program, we support our customers in managing their environmental and CSR goals. We achieve this by scoping all the energy resources we use to complete a service for the customer, such as travel and energy consumption. The emissions are calculated according to recognized ISO standards for GHG lifecycle modelling, calculations and reporting.
To help deliver this program, Intertek has partnered with the leading carbon project and offset management firm EcoSecurities/Climate Care to facilitate the offset delivery aspect of the program to Intertek customers. We have selected projects with the highest quality and standard guidelines such as UN Clean Development Mechanism, Voluntary Carbon Standard, Gold Standard and Climate Action Reserve.
You can choose to off-set through existing sales channels by selecting preset offset options for the emissions related to your auditing service. Once you've elected to opt-in, Intertek will forward you an offset certificate upon completion of the services, detailing the offset emission, cost and offset project summary.
