Standard: ASTM D3201 – Standard Test Method for Hygroscopic Properties of Fire-Retardant Wood and Wood-Based Products

Scope: Per ASTM D3201: "This test method prescribes the procedure for determining the hygroscopicity of fire retardant treated wood products by determining the moisture content of fire-retardant-treated wood and wood-based product specimens after exposure to a test condition of 92% relative humidity at 81 ̊F.

Applicable Products: Resilient flooring except materials with a foamed layer

Test Procedure: The test specimen is placed with the wearing face up on a comparator stand anvil. The thickness reading is taken at least 0.75 in. from any edge of the specimen. Five total measurements are taken in random locations.

End Result: This test results in the average thickness as well as the minimum and maximum thicknesses of the flooring tile.
