Standard: ASTM C1353 – Standard Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Dimension Stone Subjected to Foot Traffic Using a Rotary Platform Abraser

Certification Required: N/A

Scope: Per ASTM C1353: "This test method covers the establishment of an index of abrasion resistance by determination of loss of volume resulting from abrasion of dimension stone."

Applicable Products: Dimension stone

Test Procedure: The bulk specific gravity of the test specimens are determined in accordance with C97 for C121. The specimens are then conditioned at 140 ̊F for 48 hours followed by cooling in a desiccator. Immediately before testing, the specimens are weighed before being placed on the table of the abraser. 1000 g is added to each abrading wheel and the specimens are subjected to 1000 revolutions. Dust and debris are brushed off of the abrasive wheels while the test is running to prevent clogging of the wheels. The specimens are weighed after 1000 cycles are completed.

End Result: This test results in the bulk specific gravity and the index of abrasion resistance.
